Rochester Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney

With most families in the United States living paycheck to paycheck, it is easy to quickly become overwhelmed by debt. Medical emergencies, necessary home repairs, car accidents or lost jobs can put people in dire financial positions. When this happens, it is wise to contact an experienced local bankruptcy attorney to learn more about your options.

I am attorney George Mitris, and I have helped countless people get out from under crushing debt by filing bankruptcy. I have more than 30 years of experience in this field, and my clients appreciate my knowledge, skill and expertise as I help them through these troubling times.

The Bankruptcy Code has several chapters detailing consumer bankruptcy options. The two most common are Chapter 7 and Chapter 13.

  • Chapter 7 bankruptcy is a debt elimination filing. Individuals who qualify can get all or most of their unsecured debt discharged almost immediately.
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcy is a debt restructuring plan. Individuals file Chapter 13 in order to cure mortgage or auto loan payment arrears or to address tax issues, or simply to save property that might be liquidated in a chapter 7 case. Chapter 13 is a great way to save your house, car and other property. Chapter 13 can also be used to restructure unsecured debt such as credit card debt, by eliminating interest and eliminating some or most of the principal. plans typically last from three to five years. After the successful completion of the repayment period, any remaining unsecured debt will be discharged.

Individuals struggling through financial problems will have many questions about the Bankruptcy Code, their options and their prospects for a fresh start. I invite you to visit other pages on this site for more information about how bankruptcy can help you.
